Sometimes, in the course of human events, one might want to connect to one of your computers from another. And if you're a Gen X or Gen Y like me, you might immediately think of Microsoft Remote Desktop. And then, you might notice that Remote Desktop requires Windows 11 Pro, and you might just get out your credit card and pull the proverbial trigger on that upgrade. After all, Microsoft must have the best remote desktop solution for Windows, right? And the fact that it's a selling point of the Pro version surely indicates that it's worth it, right?
But you'd be wrong. You see, Microsoft Remote Desktop is actually theĀ budget option. IT teams don't want to pay for a separate remote support/administration tool like TeamViewer, so Remote Desktop is a convenient alternative that's included with Windows Pro licenses.
Meanwhile, as a non-commercial user, you have many great free options like RustDesk, TeamViewer, and NoMachine, all of which are vastly superior to the old Remote Desktop product.
